You should be able to weld it up then grind it smooth you can also invest in skid plate for added protection to the bottom of the frame.

the only problem with welding it as is, is how thin the metal is around the area? the rust might have ate a bigger area already.
I would take it to a fabricator and see what they suggest.
I have a buddy that a motorcycle fabicator, painter, welder (jack of all trades). some people on this board might know him. but anyway, pm me if ya want his number

just went to Action Honda and looked @ a new 08trx450 for $6600...
seems like my bike has just seen better days.
If I sold my 400 and put down $2k on the 450
means Id have a brand new 08trx450 for like $5k OTD ... maaan Its tempting...
orrrrrrr just buy my 400 :)

Most likely you'd have to cut a large section out, and weld a new piece in.

couldnt that really jeopardise the structural integrity of the frame?
especially right where the footpeg bolts up??

it's definately a bad place for a weak spot, but if done right it should hold up just fine. i'd gusset it too

I know you love Hondas and I like my 00 400ex but I just bought an 08 Raptor 700 new in the box for only $5000 just 3 months ago, you get the same performance as a 450 with the added bonus of reverse and I'm not really a fan of Yamaha but they did there homework on the new Raptors and when a bike retails for for $7800 and you can pick it up for only $5600 out the door I fiqure you can't go wrong:rock:

but I feal (and some may argue with me) that bigbore sport quads arent as versatile as a the 450s
450s (not just the trx) have excelled in mx, xc, and even desert
now if I was rich I would own a 400ex, a trx450, AND a 700xx buuuut... im not.
plus if I did buy anything but a honda I would have to hear it from everyone :bs:
and thats not saying that I would! lol

oddly enough the wet weight of the 700 is less then the z400 not by much but the numbers in Dirt Wheels had the Raptor at 422lbs and the 09 Z400 at 425lbs and as far as Honda's 700XX stay away from it. I've rode it more than once and in differant areas and I hope I don't get too much heat for this but Honda failed at having a big bore sport bike. It really is a dissappointing bike from honda they should be better than that

It did dominated in the desert, that has to say something...
The only thing I dislike about the 700xx is the IRS.
The weight of the 700rappy may be lite but its about where that weight is placed on the quad.
I am sure the center of gravity is much higher on a 700 than on a 450.
Get a big bore 250r and call it a day
