Most all of us take very good care of our quads. Some of us go beyond the call and change engine oil every ride. I believe in increased maintenance schedules to keep my bike running great. Well, during my years of riding I have found almost all of us aggressive trail, cross county racing and occasional MX track riders do not maintain our suspension shock absorbers.
Through hours of research I have found recommended intervals of shock maintenance to vary. Needless to say the recommendation for even weekend riders is once a year. Think about it. Quad shocks take a pounding in almost all terrain. Next time you are riding, stop and feel your front shock body. You will be surprised it is hot. This heat is what breaks down the oil and its additives as does in your automobile and engine of your quad.
Some experts recommend changing the shock oil and recharge the nitrogen for racers every few races. For weekend racers maintenance should be quarterly. I have read a suggestion for every 20 hours, which we suggest. There are no specific ways to determine when you should maintain your shocks. But, everyone does requires maintenance be performed.
I can tell you from my experience thus far, all the oil I have removed has come out either black or dirty brown depending on original oil color.
Seals are another story. Most seals I have found to be in good shape and do not need to be replaced. Inevitably if you see oil on you shaft or the shaft is not clean and smooth it is a good idea to have the seals inspected during service. If the shaft is pitted and is in poor condition, it can be re-chromed and the shock can be brought to new conditions.
If you have any questions or concerns, always feel free to call us and ask.
Shock Service - All service prices include oil and nitrogen, “all other parts are extra”. Shocks are disassembled for an estimate before any work is performed. Old service parts are returned with completion of work. Typical shock service intervals are 20hrs of use. We will warranty any defects in our craftsmanship or our replacement service parts for up to 30 days from dated invoice.
Front Shock Each $50.00
Rear Shock $75.00
