I come home and the garage smells like gas. I go over to the quad standing up on the back bar and theres a puddle of gas on the floor. wtf, maybe just a lot was in the bowl or something and leaked out. nope the whole tank full, 2.7 gallons. the whole tank dumped into the airbox! what gives? now I need a new air filter because my filter was soaked and fell apart. the airbox was litterally filled to the top with gas. it was just filled up too. I turned the fuel petcock thing to off and ran the quad till it cut out. then i stood it up. 10 hours later i come home and yeah theres a mess. on top of that now its 2AM and i'm covered in paint and gas because the gas like softened the paint on the garage floor or something and it came off all over my shoes, arms, and legs. So what gives? can you not stand a 450r up? is some seal busted? just thnking about it the crankcase breather tube runs into the airbox... wouldnt it have been possible for the gas to have leaked into my oil? how can I tell if it did?

I turned the gas off thats the part that sucks. I ran the quad till it cut out. I figured its all good to go and stood it up. Well obviously it wasnt good to go and the whole tank emptied into the airbox. So the fuel ptcock must have a bad seal or something I dont even know. I think I have to change the engine oil too because of the chance that gas could have leaked down the breather. I dont even know where to start.

so when you turn the gas off and stand it up it leaks you mite have a bad shut off when you turn that off it cut all gas leaving the tank . i wood change the oil just in case

I dont even know how to change the oil on this thing lol I know the crankcase is separate from the engine oil. I know where the oil filter is and where the fill hole is. I see the crankcase oil drain plug and where to fill it but i have no idea how much to put in it or where to drain the engine oil. I dont think the oil was contaminated because of the hole in the bottom of the airbox is at the same level so the gas cant go higher than that which means it wouldnt run into the breather. Is the oil level too high on this quad? Oil leaks out the breather tube when its standing up. I see the hole for the oil level on the engine oil side but it looks cloudy its hard to see in there. Maybe the outside is just dirty and needs a scrub where that is. Basically I need a crash course(not how to literally crash lol) on the TRX450R ASAP.

Yo. I am wondering if your petcock is bad. Mine is. If you take of the tank with you petcock in the off position will it leak? Mine does.
As far as the oil changing goes. The main oil chamber drains out the bottom. Drain all the oil out. Mine is an Electric start so I (per the manual) put the red stop/run slider in the off position and hit the start a few times to get get more of the oil out. Change filter. Replace drain and fill until it gets towards the full line on the window.
Tranny side. Drain is under near the front sprocket. It is a hex bolt. Drain it out. When refilling there is a hex screw on the tranny side with a triangle on it. Fill the tranny side slowly until oil starts seeping out of that hole. Then you are done.
I hope this makes sense. I believe Brian may have a copy of the manual in Adobe that could help clarify. Good Luck!!!

I am not sure where, but if I stand up mine the fuel will leak out. I thought was normal.

so you got a 450 huh? lucky duck
did you disconnect the fuel line from the petcock to see if gas will come out with the fuel off?
sounds like a leaky petcock to me

thank you :) and yeah its the petcock. I took off the fuel line hose going to the carb and gas is just pouring out. I figured out the oil change myself and I found a downloadable manual later on. I got it all figured out besides getting the gas tank off. The gas tank on this quad I see 2 bolts but if you turn them its almost like they are stripped or there is a nut on the backside that you have t hold but idk where. and my secret is out now lol yeah I got a 450

I was a bit hesitant. I started thinking what if I don’t like kick start, what if I don’t like the power band and the 400ex feels better to me and maybe suits me better... So wrong once I hopped on it. I'm in love with the thing. In stock form it's so much further advanced in comparison to the 400ex. Basically in stock form it’s everything I could have hoped my 400ex to be fully modded, truly amazing. You can’t lug it around as low of an RPM but it’s not that much of a difference. People over exagerate the lugging capabilities. The power, suspension, comfort... everything feels so great. I was meant to be on one. Now the modding process begins along with the selling process of ye ole 400ex. Now I gotta get it out to Croom or something.

I'll have to get back to you on that David. I'll let you know though.

never rode an LTR but when I had a YFZ I hated the thing lol. I felt so weird on it and unless it was revved a bit it was like bogging. The TRX takes off pretty good from down low like the 400ex.
