MY DG's broke in the same spot. i hit a tree with front right rim and bike swung to the left and another tree hit the left nerf and bent it in. upon bending it back out it looked like that... I had my welder put a steel rod inside and weld it up. strong as nails now. :thumb::thumb:

Should have left the rod out... I would rather have the bars bend and break then the frame. All the energy has to go somewhere. If the bars don't give, something else will have too...
Just my opinion...

even with the rod the alum. nerfs will bend before the steel frame does, the alum. proably cracked cause of being bent then bent back where a the original weld had already weakend the strength of the alum. tubing.
the best bet is to cut the tube were its cracked, inserst and weld an alum. slug inside it and then put the two halfs back together

We finally agree.
I should have taken a pic before I heated them up and straightened them. They were an "S" curve. I just want a bead to keep them from snapping if I happen to stand on them when riding. They did there job, I hit the tree pretty hard, just trying to get some more life out of them.

Its actually a very small insert just to strengthen the break where it got welded (not that it needs it) it will be fine as it doesn't run the length of the nerf or anything.....
