Croom GPS Map ride 2/24/08

We are planning a ride to map the new lettered trails at Croom and to take pictures of interesting places to be added to the Google Earth map of Croom. For the members that are not aware of Google Earth You can read about it and download it here http://earth.google.com/ .

You can download an existing KML file of Croom here. http://atvflorida.com/ridereview-croom.php (about midway look for the Croom KML file and down load it.) We will be adding to this file as we have permission from the person who made the original map.

Our goal is to make an aerial map using Google Earth to show the new lettered trails. Also to add markers for places of interest along with pictures of the places of interest. After the Google earth map is done we can turn in into a KML file that any one wishing to ride at Croom can download the file and if they have Google Earth they can just click on the file which will open Google Earth and take them directly to an aerial few of Croom.

We would also like to make a paper map of the lettered trails that we could leave at the entrance gate to be given out to other riders.

I think this ride will be a lot of fun. It will help every one to learn how Croom is laid out and it will be a great opportunity for members to get to know each other and make new friends.

We have planed the ride for Feb 24th so mark that day on your calendar and lets all meet at Croom and have a great day of riding. :drivingskid:

me and the wife are in, we are planning on riding the 10th and the 24th anyway. Would this be a good time for the cookout also? I have a smaller grill we can bring, plenty of propane etc...

proly gonna be a full day of riding. i would say we all need to bring lunch on this ride. maybe we can eat on the trail?

That's great!!! I have a list of coordinates for the existing markers so all you will have to do is go to them and take pictures. I also will have maps with markers on them to make it easier to find.

I'm Thinking some riders can take photos while others can map the lettered trails.

As far as i know. The rangers are making a new gps map also .they have been out on the trails marking and posting new signs .they started a few weeks ago .

Yup but we are marking trails and points of interest for Google Earth.. I don't think that's what they are doing.. I could be wrong though.....

I plan on getting there around 7AM Sunday morning. I like to get there early. I try to park between the rest rooms and the shelter on the opposite side of the road if I can. I know that most of you park by the kids track so we will be close to each other.

As to the time It would be nice if we could all meet at the latest between 9AM and 10AM. The earlier we can get together and make a game plan the better. I'm not sure how many are going to show up or how many will have a GPS. Nor do I have any Idea how much we can get done.

So it looks like I'm going to be in Ocala all weekend. It's a friends b-day and he wants to ride and camp at Lake Delancey. I can't turn down an ocala trip but i'm sad to be missing the gps ride. oh well..

man it was nice out today and no dust.

had a great time with merle and family, i guess no one else could make it. we took a bunch of pics at various locations to link into google earth. it was nice meeting the fam, merle we will have to do more again soon.
