When he cased the jump he fell back off his quad, then the quad fell back onto him. I believe his hanle bars landed on his hip as he was laying on his side.
I've got more videos and many pics of the weekend. Will post tommorrow, to tired.
wow thats hard to watch. Why did they start with such a big gap?
owww :( what a tough cookie though.

Why did he let off the gas right on the top of the ramp?
I talked with him the other day on the phone and this is what he told me. He was taking some pointers from another other doing the jump. He told me the guy's quad that gave him the advice was a lot different than his. He took the advice and because of the big difference between the two quads its just did not work. Bill told me he should have gone with his own instinct but did not.
Bill here is too a quick recovery get well soon my friend. Just as we had talked about when you get well enough to ride I am coming down your way so we can rip it up.

Some one told him to let of the gas??? YIKES!!!
Hope he remembers who it was after he recovers... I'd give that guy a little thumb throttle to the eye!

I do not know about letting off the gas he did not tell me that just said they gave him some advice. Either way its sucks and I hope he has a 100% recovery.

For sure, hope he has a quick and problem free recovery.
If you look at the vid he lets off the gas right at the top of the ramp then pegs it mid air.

I just have to say one thing. The person he was following and taking pointers from was only coaching him on how he jumps it time and time again.. So to put something in his eye is not too cool to be saying.. It was a bad jump and the only person at fault is the person behind the handle bars. Bill, John and I are praying for ya and your speedy recovery.... No need to put the blame on someone or a thumb in their eyes.

agreed.. The point of letting off the gas at the peak of the jump is to prevent nose climb. If your hard on the gas after the front tires come off the ground , the quad or bike will move towards the 12oclock position.. So in theory , what he was told if he was told that is correct.. You get enough ramp speed , and let off just before the jump blippin while air born and gasin it on landing.. sara and i watch all the pro am riders doing the exact thing. I know i do it on every jump by habbit...\
Speedy recovery bill.

Steady throttle on a 4 stroke, lay off in the air, "blip" the throttle or tap brakes if needed.
I would hope the "coach" didn't tell him to let off the throttle. That's how I read it in DS650's post. You're absolutely right in saying it's no ones fault but the one behind the bars... However, to set some one up for failure would be wrong. If it was a jump gone bad, it was a jump gone bad. If the coach gave him good directions I retort the thumb throttle comment.

Ok I and a few others were watching Matt, a guy who works at Motoplex, hit the jump many many times. Bill started to do dry runs next to Matt to get the speed down. Bill was told to hit the jump using an even speed. There was a smaller jump next to the free syle ramp as you saw in the video. Everytime Bill hit the smaller jump he would land on his back tires. The advice that was givin was to use an even speed to land on all 4's. Same advice as Matt's. We thought he was going to do a couple more practice runs to get the speed down but he went for it. And the reason the ramp was set up so far away is because it was set up for Matt and the other guy, I wish I could remember his name. They had started with the ramp only 10 feet away, than moved it in 5foot incriments,(spell check), the week before. They said it's a pain in the a$$ to move and relevel it.I think the distance was 45 feet. We all felt very bad for bill, and in no way was he pushed or cheered on to do it. He wanted to do it. Why did I post it? Bill wanted to see it posted. I just wanted to clear things up before things got to crazy. So for now lets just pray for him and his family.:thumb:

No one said Matt set anyone up, you have assumed that by reading in to it!!!. We all get advice from time to time take it or leave it. We get advice from financial people some time we win some time we loose, and so on and so on. What we do with the advice is that person who uses the advice and it is solely that persons responsibility. The person using the advice is the sole responsible person. Wild Bill told me nothing of the sort about blame. He just mentioned the big difference in the quads. That is not pointing any fingers or blame at anyone. He attempted the jump and crashed. If you ride quads, bikes or even drive in a car we all have the time when we OOPS! You probable got advice from someone when you were learning to driver a car. If you have crashed did you point the finger at the person who gave you that advice? I think not! READ AND COMPREHEND THE POST, NO ONE BLAMED ANYBODY, so let it go!
To the two riders hurt in this post get well and God bless.

If you read Baileygunns post he mentioned a post by me, DS650. Baileygunns assumed I stated Matt told Wild Bill to let off the throttle. Where in my post does it say that. I re-read my post and it has no mention about any throttle. This is starting to sound like OJ Simpson's dream team for his double homicide, twist and distort the facts.
I have pointed no finger of blame at anyone, I am done with this blame game; I am here to ride and ride is what I shall do. Oh yes I have gotten advice from other riders and if I crash and get hurt I intend to blame nobody but myself.

Sorry about your injuries but I must add I wouldn't recommend jumping a freestyle ramp unless your a pro, pro-am, or A class rider and definitely not on a 400cc stock machine. Those ramps are really tricky sometimes, especially from that kind of distance.

Bill , he wasnt neccessarily bashing the 400.. but the free style ramps have a tendency to kick you in different directions at different distances . When he said stock , i think he was referring more towards suspension then mechanical. Confidence is a must , and a set of brass balls always helps , but on a proper set up machine. either way hope your next attempt is successful

dude i hear what you r saying, but let,s b real, not all people out there are pros and go and hit a free style ramp, hell pros, pro-am, or a class reiders didn,t know how to jump a ramp at all at one time, my point is you have to start some where, the pros did too, is all about trial and as bill can tell u error as well, so to say you have to b a pro? i agree a stock bike suspension is not really meant for that but if you land correctly a stock suspension can take a free style ramp, the jumps are built to land smooth, now how long a stock suspension will last doing that, that's another story, just saying if bill want,s to hit a free style ramp he can and no one should tell him he has to be a pro, we all start somewhere to learn, i think wild bill will be at it again just more safe about it next time. :welcome:

We are now at record levels involving atv fatalities and injuries last year, soon they will be trying to ban atv's again like the late 1980's which they came close back then. Chet it took over 10 years for atv's to recover from the backlash of 3 wheelers and now it could happen all over again do to people that think that are freestyle jumpers or just idiots saying "hey look at me". I personally think that most of these tracks offering freestyle jumps are crazy and can't believe they want the liability of these potential death traps.
