40 is to small, I think I have a 48 right now with a 172 and a dirt bike needle on the 3 notch, no air box lead and this should work with just about any aftermarket exahust. (2.5 turns out on the air mix screw)

if backfires you need to turn out the mix screw a lil more, but go by 1/4 of the turn everytime, it take a lil to get to the right spot, my othe quad I had it on 2 3/4 turns out and if I muve it in or out it will be a mess

Don,t think it dies, can't remember.
I have a 48 or 52 (can't remeber that either) and a 172. 40 would be way to small.

But mine doesnt even stumble w/ a #42 or 45. And its said if it doesnt stumble and miss when you bottom out the fuel screw then your pilot jet is too big. which is why I was asking about #40. But Im just gonna try the #48 and see what happens.

Are you using fmf jet kit?no, kehin jets from all over the place

I ended up with a 45 pilot, 168 main, NVCQ needle on 3rd clip, 35 leak jet and 2.5 turns out on the fuel screw. I recommend the Zip-Ty Racing fuel screw. Also recommend modding the accelerator pump arm. It made a huge difference with mine. Best way to know if you are jetted correctly is to do throttle chop testing and inspect the plug.
