FTR members,
I recieved a call from the commissioners office in Hillsborough County about a possibile OHV park. Hillsborough County, district 4 hasn't set any expectations of this park, but are simply trying to gauge the citizen interest in such a park. Here's everyones chance to support the interest, you don't have to leave your house, just simply email your thoughts and why Florida needs an oppertunity as this and why you would support it. They want to hear how many of us would support it. Keep your emails positive and to the point, no negativity.
Email to the parks department director Mark Thorton at:
ThorntonM@HillsboroughCounty.org
and commissioner Al Higginbotham at:
HigginbothamA@HillboroughCounty.org
I saw this on the FTR site. It is a post from the President of FTR. I think it would be great for us to participate. A park in Hillsborough would greatly benefit all of us!!!

Here is the update. Not good guys. :cussing:
I started this approx 2 years ago after meeting with state and local parks dept folks. I reapproached them again a few months ago after the budget issues have started to settle down and sent them to contact the FTR Assoc. Here is the latest email I have and it doesn't look good as we don't seem to have people wanting to get involved.
"We asked Mark Thornton with Parks & Rec to look into it. We also contacted an organization, Florida Trail Riders I think, and asked them to email in their thoughts on it. The main stumbling block we have is that we have not received much citizen input. The Trailriders group has sent in two emails at most. If you can drum up support, have them send emails to HigginbothamA@HillsboroughCounty.org and ThorntonM@HillsboroughCounty.org.
It's going to be tough in the budget situation the way it is, but we need citizen support before we could really do anything.

Please Make sure to email them as Hillsborough County has one of the highest registrations in the state for ORV's so we need the support! Anyone can contact me directly at sconnors@tampabay.rr.com or (813)495-7223.

Just came across this on the site - not sure what status of proposal is . . but my response is below:
Mssrs. Higginbotham and Thornton:
As a former Hillsborough County resident (Countryway 1990 - 2001) and current Pinellas County resident (St. Pete 2001 to present), I want to make you aware of my support of a Hillsborough area OHV park.
I am a professional in the financial industry and have been with A. G. Edwards in the Westshore area, Raymond James in St. Petersburg and am currently with a Boston based asset management firm specializing in alternative investment strategies. I travel extensively supporting new business development efforts in the Southeast.
Riding an offroad "dirt bike" on and off since 1976, I bought a dirt bike again 2 years ago and make it habit between my weekly trips to TIA to join a growing group of colleagues that ride together primarily at Croom (about 1 1/2 hours north of here). I have flown north to join friends to ride in Pennsylvania, have plans to meet a group of for a trip to the Durhamtown, GA OHV area this fall, and recently visited a new OHV facility called Carolina Adventureworld to report to a network of fellow riders my opinion on what is offered there (between meetings in Charlotte, NC and Columbia, SC).
As I reflect back on my early days of riding, I knew area landowners/farmers and could ride extensively minutes from my home. Unfortunately there are few places to ride today.
My "riding friends" are in a number of professions and many enjoy the sport as a family or at least as father and son.
I would support development an OHV area in Hillsborough County.
As I closing note, I learned of the proposal through connections with the Florida Trail Riders and a group of riders I keep in touch with at TampaBayRidinDirty.com.
I urge you to enlist our support and input to forward the process.
Best Regards,
Steve Ravenna
