Name is Mark and my girl Christina from Wesley Chapel, new to TBRD and lookin' for a quad that suits a guy 6'-2" 228lbs. I posted pics from my former hobbie and looking forward to getting back into riding and camping with like minded people. Looking for input on what makes and models might work best for me, not new to riding but it's been awhile.

Hey Andy,
I was in Pinellas for 32 years, Sunshine was my back yard but I spent most of my time on the street. I'm looking to run the FTR HS Master Quad events as well as some recreational. My girl is intersted in getting into riding as well so my first bike may ultimatly wind up being her primary. What you got, drag car?
Mark

If you like speed, I would say go with a 450, If you want something a little slower but more reliable. I have a 81 monte carlo drag car.

Horsepower is THE major factor next to handling, 5.52 1/8, 8.90 1/4 in a 3200# car so I'm thinking not less than a 400. Anyone riding 660's or 700's in the Hare Scrambles, competitively ? How long have you been drag racing ?

I have a raptor 700 and used to race it in the ftr, they are great bikes. The only one I haven't broken, but they are heavier and are a taller bike, which means harder to turn without tipping. Ive had the car 14 years and just do test and tunes every once and awhile, never any competitions. It runs a 9.90 1/4 and a 6.20 1/8. You are putting down some great times.

I appreciate the info Andy, as far as the car, I worked for Kris at Nelson Competition for a little while so had access to the best of everything and Joe Irwin at Fast Forward in Z-hills put together a set of AFR 227's that work well. Dart block, Callies crank, JE pistons, Oliver rods and one of Kris' custom nitrous rollers. 6.40 1/8, 10.00 1/4 on the motor. I take it your not fond of bracket racing like myself ? Hey, I'm pretty sure I can get 700cc power out of a 450, what do you think ? I saw Chris Boric out at Okeechobee, that things got some power and Chris is an animal.

I am familiar with nelson and seen plenty of wicked fast cars he has built. I have a 383 10.1 compression solid roller cam with 275-300 shot on it. Don't really know the specs on it due to I bought it used. It will do 7.00 1/8 and 10.90 1/4 on the motor. As far as power from the quad, you can pull good # from 450 but i have seen big bore stroker raptors pull 80-90 hp which you will never see from a 450. Ive heard you can get around 60hp from a stock bore and stroke suzuki 450. Chris definitely has everyone out powered.

Wow, 14 years is a long time. Those are some good numbers. Any problems getting it hooked, stock suspension ? Well, looks like I'm in the market for a good used 450. Honda seems to be popular from the feedback I've gotten so far.
Any chance you are going to Brighton ? If so we will see you there...

I run DS650's big heavy bikes but lost of torque. They also like big folks, lots of room. I have two, one stock one with some work, if you ever want to run one when we are at Croom the invite is open.

Sorry we missed you at Brighton, we have a new family member (75lb boxer) who is still trying to figure out his territory. Saw the Planky rig. I see you ride a Suzuki and I am looking at one tomorrow, you are one of the few out there riding a LTR, got any comments, suggestions ?
Everyone seems to be steering me to a trx but I'm undecided as of yet.

I love my LTR and wouldnt trade it for any other make. Try signing up on ltr450hq.com Its a great site with many LTR's for sale and a lot of info.
We were parked right across from the Plankey's, hope to meet ya next time.
If I see you around before you buy something, you are welcome to try out mine and see how it feels for you.

SUZUKI it is !
Just picked up an 08 Quadracer 450r this morning, been sittin' in a garage for the last 3 years, was bought new in 09. Not a mark on it, still has half a tank of the only tank of fuel it's ever had. In fact still has dealers tag on the key. Literally new, not broke in yet. I had no idea these thing where sooo fast, Holy Crap. Found it on cl and got it right ! Thats a generous offer, maybe you take this one for a spin and clue me in on whats next.
Was on it for 15 minutes today and my forearms were locked up tight, I have some training to do. I appreciate all the help from everyone. Need riding gear still ! Size 12 boots, 36-34 pants, XL jersey if anyone has anything. This quad is so sweet I hate to ride it.
