ok what chain lube do you use and why?

this is always an interesting debate.

so far on my 450 i have been washing after each ride and lifting the rear end to spin the tires/chain and i use a motor oil plastic quart with a hole in the cap to run (mobil1 syn) motor oil on the chain. then i clean and wipe down. then add 1 more coat to each side of the chain on the o rings. then let that sit till next ride. seems to work well. im not worried about oil splatter since i clean it almost every ride. plus the oil and dirt seem to wash off easier.

i tried wd40 (read alot of people believe in it) but it sounded sandy and gritty...no good.

what do you use? :D

I use WD 40 to clean the chain and then I use PJ1 chain lube. It sticks very well and doesn't fly off
I dont swear by it but its the only brand Ive ever used.

yeah there are alot of people online who swear by wd40. i have wanted to try the pj1 i guess i just need to buy a can.

believe me though, i use wd40 on everything and i coat most raw metal surfaces on the quad with it, coat the engine lightly. that and armorall. i should have stock in both!!

Silicone is your best friend in more ways than one:D.I use chain wax and I have no complaints. I spray the Silicone on everything and it makes cleaning a little easier to

brian, i've tried alot of stuff almost everything outthere and my personal preferance is bel ray 6in 1 seems to do the best job with out having the chain get all full of packed up dirt and it is easy to clean at the ende of the day.

cheap way out = no touch spray from discount or autozone! synthetic based works great just have to reapply every so often!

the correct way = chain wax from i think maxima works great!

i use both depending on the mood lol

I used to use chain wax...it seemed to work ok, but the buildup was awful. It was very hard to clean it off the chain, hub, sprockets and whatever else I got it on. I switched to Motorex 622 synthetic. Very nice...clean too. Even comes with an innovative cap with spray nozzle and tube holder. NO more lost extension tubes. Works very well for me... As for WD40 causing rust...that is a neverending debate. I personally have never seen it cause rust....and I have used it for many years on all my boats and toys. Keeps my bare metal PC works pipe clean and rust free.
